Camp and Sailing Instruction

Little Mariners

4-5 year olds, 2 day (Tues/Thurs), 3 day (Mon/Wed/Fri), or 5 day (M-F) @ 9:00-12:00

This class is geared towards our youngest campers and is held outside along the harbor or on the beach and teaches children about the pond and beaches, how to keep them healthy, the creatures that live in and around the water and also uses this class to introduce the children to boating and water safety. Children must be 4 years old at the start of the class and should bring a towel and life jacket to each class.

Junior Crew

6-7 year olds, 2 day (Tues/Thurs), 3 day (Mon/Wed/Fri), or 5 day (M-F) @ 9:00-12:00

Similar to Little Mariners, this class teaches children about the pond and beaches, how to keep them healthy, the creatures that live in and around the water and also uses this class to introduce the children to sailing and boat safety through games, activities and daily on-the-water outings. Sailing will be incorporated into the curriculum for both the 3 and 5-day sessions. Children must be 6 years old at the start of the class and should bring a towel and life jacket to each class.

Beginner Opti

Mon-Fri mornings

This program is for sailors ages 8-10 and will be offered in different sections.  Optis are available for rental, or children may bring their own boats (encouraged). The program will be a hybrid of on land and water activities and is designed to be active and engaging while maintaining a safe environment. On days when sailing is not an option due to the weather,  we will offer a mix of beach adventures, environmental protection activities, gardening, crabbing, knot tying, building boats, crafts and other activities.

Intermediate Opti

Mon-Fri afternoons
This program is for sailors age 9-12 with beginner Opti experience. This program will focus on perfecting and reviewing skills learned in beginner Opti as well as more advanced sailing skills and an introduction to racing. Emphasis will be placed on ensuring sailors feel comfortable handling their boats and are ready to take on more challenging boats and wind/ race conditions. On days when sailing is not an option due to the weather,  we will offer a mix of beach adventures, environmental protection activities, gardening, crabbing, knot tying, building boats, crafts and other activities.

Advanced Opti

Mon-Fri afternoons

This program is for sailors age 10-13 with intermediate Opti experience. This program will focus on racing and advanced techniques of Opti sailing. We will review intermediate opti skills before introducing new skills including roll tacking and roll gybing. We will also learn about racing rules as well as tactics and strategies. Although this class is centered around racing, and sailors will be encouraged to participate in local regattas, there is still a place for non racers. Learning how to go fast and maneuver your sailboat are important sailing skills that reach beyond racing. On days when sailing is not an option due to the weather,  we will offer a mix of beach adventures, environmental protection activities, gardening, crabbing, knot tying, building boats, crafts and other activities.

Beginner 420s

Mon-Fri mornings 

This program will be for sailors age 12+. We will review basic sailing techniques learned in optis as well as skills required for 420 sailing including learning how to rig a 420, working with a crew/ skipper, single handling a 420 without a jib and learning how to maximize speed.  On days when sailing is not an option due to the weather,  we will offer a mix of beach adventures, environmental protection activities, gardening, crabbing, knot tying, building boats, crafts and other activities.  For safety reasons and to maximize success, sailors must be a minimum of 80 lbs to participate.

Intermediate/Advanced 420s

Mon-Fri afternoons
This program will be for sailors age 12+ and welcomes intermediate and advanced sailing levels. Intermediate and advanced 420 students will continue to learn race techniques and strategies and will be encouraged, but not required, to participate in local regattas.  On days when sailing is not an option due to the weather,  we will offer a mix of beach adventures, environmental protection activities, gardening, crabbing, knot tying, building boats, crafts and other activities. For safety reasons and to maximize success, sailors must be a minimum of 80 lbs to participate.

Private Lessons

Private Lessons for members of any age can be scheduled in any number of boats (beetles, 420, quest, bug, Hobie, etc) by contacting the club. Lesson rates are $75/hour for one sailor and an extra $25/hour for each additional sailor.
