Junior Crew

Description
This class teaches children 6 and 7 about the pond and keeping the pond and beaches healthy and clean, about pond creatures such as clams, mussels and oysters, about boats and sailing with boat- and sailing-related crafts, games and activities. Junior Crew prepares children for a Beginning Opti class.  Therefore, children will learn how to row and about the parts of a boat and the points of sail. They play games about sailing. For example, they could play a game to see how many kids it takes to sink an Opti. Children in the Junior Crew program will learn about wind direction and begin to understand tides. Each day an experienced adult or counselor will read a sea- or sailing-related book to the children.

The Junior Crew program is headed by an experienced, certified swimming coach (American University) and assisted by a college senior majoring in childhood education.
